News: Black main character at Disney

Once I have written a book on a specific subject, I seem to forever be on the lookout for examples in that field. One of my first books, Black Images in the Comics (Serienegern in Swedish), about the representation of Black people in comics, has stayed with me ever since its inception and the subject matter constantly pops up all around me. Now I just viewed a short video documentary on the new Disney animated feature, The Princess and the Frog, at DN, wich discusses that this is the very first African American main character in a Disney animated feature.

That this film was made now is interesting in many ways. It could not have been done much earlier, what with the general political climate in the US and the very conservative way of Disney... Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to this film, which is a first for me in a long time when it comes to Disney. Pixar, definitely! Aardman, without a doubt. But Disney, well I've just lost interest.

Thanks to Hanna Peterson for the tip.
