News: Covered

Just found an interesting website, Covered, which publishes reinterpretations of comic books covers. Some really funny interpretations there. I, who has just finished a book on propaganda in comics, was really fascinated by the above reinterpretation of Hansi - The Girl Who Loved the Swastika, an obscure Christian comic book from the 1970s. The new cover, by Diego J. Pereira is by far, much more appropriate.

Thanks to Kolbeinn Karlsson, who hopefully will contribute to this project, for the tip. I would love to see him do an interpretation of, well just about anything really.

  1. hahaha yes!

The original comic book was drawn by Al Hartley for Spire, a Christian company most famous for its use of the Archie comics in religious propaganda.

Apparently it was originally an auto-biographical novel to begin with, while the comic book adaptation more reads like a Christian propagandist Classics Illustrated version of Maus.

  5. Yes, I've got the comic book, and cover it in my book on propaganda. Haven't read the original novel, though. The comic is pretty scary to read.

Fredrik. I am a scholar in the US who is writing a bibliography of essential works on propaganda, and would like to include your book in this essay. Trying to track down a table of contents of your book while waiting to receive it via ILL. Would be grateful if you could drop me a line at: adelwich@trinity.edu. Thanks! Aaron
