Don Rosa is without a doubt the most popular artist working with Disney comics. I've had the privilege of holding artist talks with him on stage several times, and the auditorium has always been full to the brim of fans eager to listen to his every word. A few years ago, his presence wrecked havoc with the Copenhagen based festival
Komiks.dk, as the queue to his signings went all through the whole festival and effectively closed it for all other activities.
Considering this, it is not so strange that Egmont is now publishing
a complete, extravagant, hard cover library of all Rosa's comics, with the same deluxe treatment as was recently given the complete oevre of the old master, Carl Barks.
This will of course not be as extensive (Barks was immensely productive), but with loads of extra material, articles etc. (mostly written by Rosa himself) the entire run will be nine chunky volumes. To celebrate this, the latest issue of the Swedish magazine
Kalle Anka & C:o (and I presume the latest issue of the Donald Duck magazine in all Scandinavian countries) has been edited by Rosa. That is, he has chosen the comics that were to be included and also written an editorial and lengthy comments to all the chosen comics. This is the first time an artist has been given this privilege, as far as I know, and a fun item for all of you who like Rosa's comics.
Hello Fredrik, someone left a comment on my formspring asking for review copies of Malaak. Formspring is completely anonymous but I'm assuming it was you! I'll be happy to send you review copies but it will take a while as I'm not in Lebanon at the moment, and the only copies I have on me are meant as samples at an event I'm attending. But if they're in good condition afterwards I'll send them later in the week!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Joumana
Oh, sorry! Yes, that was me. I assumed that my name would appear... Thank you!
